The ‘Perfect Day’. What exactly is the perfect day to you? I’m sure it ranges by age, geolocation, familial status, and gender, but for all of us it is an impossible proposition. There is most likely no such thing as the perfect day. But some days are better than others, and I am trying to do my best to understand what makes up my Perfect Day.
Why? Because when Mr. R and I are not traveling, we often have no idea what to do with our time besides go to the gym. Yes, we have plenty to do… but we are never really able to find the balance between getting more work done and enjoying ourselves. As our lives get even more difficult with a child, I want to really understand what makes up my perfect day, so that I can try to extract pieces of it to insert into what might be a mundane schedule. I want to remember what a Perfect Day is… so that I can make sure to incorporate even one or two items into my routine when everything else is chaos. Makes sense right? Pre-emptive weekend disaster prevention? Let’s see what’s on my list:
Big Breakfast Out
I mentioned here how Date Mornings are our new Date Night, and I think this will continue to be a big part of my routine with baby R. I love ALL breakfast foods, and heading out with my husband to share 2-3 breakfast dishes (ideally 2 savory and one sweet!) is the perfect way to fill up for a days activities. Plus, if I get out for a breakfast date before 9 am, I already feel like I’ve successfully accomplished something for the day! So if nothing else goes right, at least I had my pancakes.
Outdoor Fitness with Mr. R
Disclaimer: THIS DOES NOT MEAN HIKE. Mr. R and I are not hikers; no way, no how, not ever. This means playing a few sets of tennis, going out on our paddle boards, doing a Nike Training Club or Yoga workout al fresco. Ideally an hour of moderate physical activity outdoors puts me in a good mood, and gets my brain and creative juices flowing. I don’t love running or cycling, but I do love how being outdoors can open up your brain in different ways. Plus, working out with my husband is always a blast for me because if I am not being super competitive with him then I am correcting his form. Which by the way, would make it hard for him to put on his perfect day list. Whoops!
2 Hours of Creative Time
Ahh… I can’t remember the last time I spent 2 hours being creative and not just executing. Seriously I think it’s been 4-5 months. I would love to paint, sew, drape, draw… just spend 2 hours trying to build on a skill in a creative way. Being creative is a skill just like speaking another language or playing the guitar; if you don’t practice, you lose it! But I rarely find time for it without having a specific end goal in mind, which takes away the joy. More creativity in my life please!
Afternoon Tea
This is fairly random but seriously one of my favorite things to do. I LOVE to get dressed up and hightail my fancy schmancy tush to a hotel for afternoon tea. I’ve done it with my mom, my husband, my best friend… and every time it’s a day for the books. I have to write this down bc it’s an experience I definitely want to remember to share with my daughter!
Wine Tasting in Napa or Sonoma
Note, that this doesn’t have to happen the same day as afternoon tea! But wine tasting has long been Mr. R and my weekend activity of choice, even if for the last 9 months it’s fallen by the wayside since I don’t get the same enjoyment out of it right now. We used to drive up to Napa or Sonoma at least once a month and meet friends for a tasting, or try a new winery that we’ve had our eyes on. Being up in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys remind us of why we live where we live, how we built our relationship and remind us to relax and enjoy our surroundings as much as we can.
Netflix, Chill, and #ChefJeff
Sure I love going out to dinner but I really prefer to end my day on the couch with my husband, a good Sonoma Pinot, and one of my favorite #ChefJeff meals… ideally his Ragu. I thought of this because we did this just 2 days ago (minus the Pinot for me) and I was in Heaven. Something about eating on the couch makes the Ragu taste even better. What’s on TV? Honestly it doesn’t really matter. As long as it’s something we’re both excited about, then it’s the perfect end to the perfect day for me!
What my Perfect Day does NOT include:
-
- Taking Blog Photos (it’s actually a Day Ruiner)
- Spending a lot of money (The guilt!)
- My computer
- Laundry
What does your Perfect Day include… or not include?
