You hear time and again that one of the best things you can do for your skin is to get into a routine, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. From K-Beauty to J-Beauty to Rodan & Fields, there are skin regimens everywhere, which are said to do wonders for your skin. I completely agree with this philosophy, but as someone who is trying new clean beauty products monthly (I try to use everything for at least a month to get a feel for the product) it can be hard to stay into a routine. However, the one thing that I stay with week after week, is my 7 day masking routine.
I have come to understand my skin and what it needs over the years, and have realized that if I stabilize it with my masks, I can fight off hormonal acne and sallow skin and instead give my skin what it needs, before it has to show me. It took a lot of trial and error testing out different non-toxic masks and getting myself into a routine that works for the amount of time I have, time of day I want to mask, and what my skin needs are, but now I can say I’ve taken the question mark out of the process.
Many people struggle with masks because they never know what to do when. My tips are always to strip/cleanse/exfoliate before hydration, hydration, hydration. For me, that means cleansing masks for my acne and clogged pores 3x a week, following up either right after, or the next day with a hydrating mask. I add in a few quick peels here and there to exfoliate and bring a fresh layer of skin to the surface, which I think is crucial in any at home skin care routine.
The trick here is repetition, and follow the directions on the mask. If the instructions say 2-3x a week, then please, do it 2-3x a week. If it can be more, feel free to add it in. Some masks or peels are too extreme to be used too often, and your skin needs to heal before using again. After 3-4 weeks of getting your masks onto a schedule, believe me, you will see results (just like anything else, right?)!
Without further ado, here are my favorite masks and my 7 day masking schedule:
Monday: Indie Lee Clearing Mask followed by True Botanicals Resurfacing Moisture Mask both in the morning (I’ve mentioned both before in this post!)
Tuesday: Juice Beauty Spray Peel, which is a favorite of mine to use in the shower or after a workout. It gently exfoliates away dead skin and literally, you can see the results. It’s addicting!
Wednesday: Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Full Strength at Night, followed by a very hydrating night cream (and an SPF the next day!)
Thursday: Kiehl’s Rare Earth Clay Mask, which is my absolute favorite to clear out the pores on my nose. There are tons of charcoal masks out there, but clay masks are the ones that really suck out the nasties! Then follow with an extra hydrating moisturizer and oil, in the morning. (check out this post for my faves!)
Friday: Juice Beauty Spray Peel and Juice Beauty Instant Eye Lift Patches (in case I have a fun date night out- or just because it’s been a rough week). This is also when I do a Lip Scrub with the Winky Lux Sugared Matcha Lip Scrub (you know I love my Matcha and this helps prevent dry flaky lips and chapping!)
Saturday: again in the morning, Indie Lee Clearing Mask, followed by True Botanicals Resurfacing Moisture Mask
Sunday: Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel at night, followed by hydrating night cream
