This past weekend Mr. R and I took my parents to Chicago for a quick trip to see a city that I was born in, and moved away from 28 years ago. My parents hadn’t been back in over 20 years, and although most of the city has changed, I was shocked at how many of the streets and places they could navigate.
We stayed at the Chicago Athletic Association, a newly renovated hotel on Millennium Park. The hotel has kept much of the turn of the century architecture that was the brainchild of Chicago moguls Marshall Field, A.G. Spaulding, and Cyrus McCormick (remember those names?), including the second floor lobby and the 8th floor ballroom. It was a blast from the past for my parents, who took my siblings to an Easter Brunch at the CAA just over 30 years ago.
The location was right on Millennium Park, which made a quick visit to the Art Institute of Chicago and the infamous Chicago Architecture Boat Tour easy to walk to. What was even easier? All of the fantastic places to shoot outfit photos in the park. All of the interesting structures, walkways and parks make for endless photoshoot opportunities, and my only regret is that I didn’t pack more outfits to shoot!
Anyway, onto the look.
I absolutely love this Zara top for the obvious stripe reasons. But even better, it’s a seasonless piece, as the wrap shape is great for warmer months, but the color palette is actually very cold weather appropriate. Wearing it with my stripe choker and wide leg pants, the look is modern and architectural.
Zara Pants (check your local store, also love this one, ridiculously expensive top its based on here), TopShop wide leg pants (similar here), Karen Walker sunglasses (on sale)
