This Holiday season, my style is being forced to take on a more chic, modern interpretation than in years past. Even though I love myself a good sequin, I’m not sure this pregnant belly will look so cute dressed as a disco ball. Plus, there’s absolutely no point of buying anything for the holiday season that only fits me for such a short time!
So I’ve taken a new approach. As you know, I’ve been using Rent the Runway Unlimited, to rent knit dresses and coats and test out their new maternity offering, which even includes maternity J Brand jeans. I’m even wearing a few pairs of low rise pants that I’ve had in my closet for years (like above) by simply tying on a hair tie as an extended and wearing a long shirt or sweater to cover the waistband.
What has this new, pregnancy style taught me? I need less. I WANT less. Maybe it’s the move to the new home, or the ‘nesting’ that everyone keeps saying, but I’ve been completely fulfilled not purchasing as many new things each month, even though it means I won’t have a perfectly sparkly holiday dress this year. But oh wait, how many of you even HAVE holiday parties to go to? When I was 20, sure there were tons of nights out at bars and Christmukkah get togethers to put on a sparkly frock or two, but now that I’m in my 30s, it’s more like cocoa and cookies, or if I’m lucky, brunch with the girls.
I did go to the mall today while shopping for others and feel the pull of the holiday promotions. Free people had 40% off sale, which is basically unheard of… but I still managed to walk away. Could I treat myself? Sure! But most clothing doesn’t fit this belly right now anyway, so I might as well save a $ or $$ for items I know I will need once the baby comes. I don’t want to make it seem like I am shopping reformed. By no means is that true! But this winter and holiday season I am taking advantage of my new body and pregnancy style and trying to turn it into a lesson in restraint. Noble, right? ;)
Well anyway, even if you can’t stop shopping this holiday season (which I have no problem with) here are the links to buy or rent the items I am wearing… none of which are maternity! Ho Ho Ho!
