Last week I showed photos of the Hong Kong leg of our honeymoon here, and this week I am continuing the journey by showing you the first few days we spent in Bali. We started our Balinese adventure off with a few days of rest and relaxation in our private plunge pool at the Alila Villas Soori. The serenity and design of the hotel was pure bliss; and we enjoyed unplugging, getting some much needed spa treatments, and taking sunset walks on the beaches’ black volcanic sand.
After a few days of rest we headed to Ubud, which is a lush town in the center of Bali filled with lots of activities and things to see. As Ubud is a very mountainous jungle, everything from the hotel pool to a temple was set along banana trees, terraced rice fields, and gorges of green that seem to drop off the face of the earth. There was so much to see here that I have split up the vacation into 2 posts. Today you can see some of the temples and the Balinese cooking class that Mr. R and I did, and next week I will show you the Tegallaleng rice fields, the monkey forest (so cute!) and some of the best shopping haunts that I found in town (of course!). Enjoy the trip!
{the sparkly black volcanic sand}
{a delicious and healthy drink made of the gel that secretes from a Daluman leaf (no really- we squished the leaves with our hands until the liquid turned to gel!) mixed with coconut milk and palm sugar}
{this is Bumbu, a spice mixture that the Balinese make up and add to everything from chicken to corn cakes}
{Balinese salad with shaved coconut, Balinese asparagus, peanuts and scallions}
{7 flavors of ice cream to finish the spicy meal off with a sweet ending}
Can’t wait to share more with you next week!
