Project Real Way Challenge 8: Editorial New York Look

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! As an early turkey day gift, I bring you… Project Real Way Challenge 8! This one was particularly fun because even though it was a quick turn around time to get it live before the holiday, I LOVE what I made and I can’t wait to wear it all winter. The Challenge

This well the challenge was to create an editorial New York look for the powerful New York woman. The look had to be bold, high fashion and dramatic, and could be featured in the pages of Marie Claire magazine. Although the look needs to read fashion, it was not supposed to be avant garde. In fact, two of the designers on the show were actually sent home last week for creating items that read more as ‘costumes’.

The Look

I decided to create an editorial New York look for the powerful woman who is about to go through a New York winter! I think there is so much opportunity in outerwear to create something functional but comfortable, easy to wear, and extremely warm. Therefore, I decided to make a reversible oversize cocoon coat fully lined in plaid flannel. I paired it with a simple red column dress to elongate the figure. There is no way that you aren’t noticing a woman who is walking down the street wearing this!
