Every year around this time I start to feel a little overwhelmed by all the shopping and the deals, and I try to make a few outfits with my summer pieces remixed. With a little thought, repurposing your summer items is easier than you might think. Simple changes such as layering, makeup and footwear really help transition the look and feel of a summer item.
I understand that this outfit is not exactly perfect for negative 15 degree weather, but this look is definitely realistic for temperate San Francisco. The first step to making an outfit feel more ‘winter’ than ‘summer’ is changing your makeup routine. In the summer I wear barely any eye makeup, add a lot more bronzer, and wear almost no lip color. In the winter its the exact opposite. I embrace my pale skin and instead layer on a heavier black eyeliner or a bold lip (or sometimes both). This makeup may not seem very heavy in the pictures, but I created a really thick line on my upper lid with Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeliner that stands out in real life.
The most obvious update to remix my summer items is by adding an over the top scarf and socks to open toe shoes. I’m sure you have seen this trend in fashion magazines and asked yourself who in their right mind dresses this way. After all, the socks with birkenstocks trend is for sure one of the worst in the last century. But with slim crew socks in bright colors and a thick heel or wedge the look is modern and trim. And matching the items? We all know I love a good matching set and matching socks to your scarf is definitely a head turner. Or maybe a head scratcher? Who knows.
Unfortunately you can’t really shop any of my summer items since they are old, but I’ve put together a few sock and heel combinations for you to think about for your next winter outing!
