I wear color, yes I do! I wear color, how ’bout you?
The unparalleled answer to that question is NO, you don’t wear color. Through this blog and my instagram account I hear quips all the time from people saying they don’t like to wear color because its too difficult and they don’t know what to match it with.
Which is why, my friends, it’s high time for me to share my tips and tricks of styling with color. Starting off with one of my favorite – and most intimidating – RED. Red color combinations are my favorite because they always make such a statement for any occasion, and no matter what, are timeless.
Ok, so how do I start incorporating red into my outfits?
Start off by incorporating a red shoe, scarf or bag into your wardrobe. You will find that a bold red accessory is easy to incorporate into a more neutral look. Then when you are ready, you can match that accessory with a red lip!
The next step is to find a good quality red statement piece. It can be a sweater, a coat, a pencil skirt… really any beautiful piece that you are excited about wearing. Trust me, if you love the cut and fit of the item, then you will find ways to wear it, which is why it’s so important to really find something that speaks to you. At this point you can still combine your red piece with easy neutrals, black, white and jeans. The point of buying a bigger statement piece is to get used to seeing yourself in bold color, so that you get be ready for bolder red color combinations.
I’m ready for more, how do I really make a bold statement with red?
In order to kill the red outfit game, pair your bold red piece with other brights. It goes surprisingly well with mustard yellow, burgundy, all shades of pink and blue and military green. Red is also a great way to incorporate those warmer brown and camel tones that are coming back into style, but in a less dated way. The only color I would stay away from is bright, emerald green, as that can get you into Christmas territory real fast.
