A few weeks ago I spotted this embellished bag strap from Fendi and I fell in love. Seeing as I don’t have a cool 1k to blow on a handbag strap my new mission became to DIY myself a few options. I mean straight to Joann’s to make this strap, which really only cost about $30 and 2 hours of my time.
I did have to cut off the existing straps on a few of my more inexpensive bags (that don’t have clips) in order to attach this one. But I am basically obsessed with it. I hate using that word but obsession pretty much sums up my feelings. It adds so much individuality and personality to my outfits. Now I can’t imagine one of my outfits without my embellished bag strap!
As for my outfit I love all the mix of prints and colors. Back when I worked at Coach we were developing our clothing brand identity and a lot of it circled around Americana and Western themes. I feel like this coat perfectly sums up that mood. The western inspired mix print dress is carefree and youthful, the leopard coat has a vintage rocker vibe, and the star bag strap has a patriotic feel. Paired with a casual cap and everyday boots, the look is vibrant and alive!
A quick tip to pattern mixing: there are a few that go with everything! Stripes and leopard for instance, match back to any other pattern as well as each other. But you already know this if you’ve read the J.Crew catalog. The easiest way to mix patterns is as I did above- layering a coat over a dress over a top. Mixing patterns in tops and bottoms is harder due the higher possibility of clashing colors and scale.
