Ok, I am convinced. The one piece bathing suit took me a few seasons to get used to, but I’ve made the plunge (hardy har har) and a stripe one piece bathing suit is my new favorite thing.
A few weeks ago I ordered a graphic stripe bathing suit in 2 versions. This one in a high waist bikini style (top and bottom), and this one in a one piece style. With both suits laid out on my bed, I polled the audience on instagram about which I should keep because I loved them both. The audience almost unanimously voted for the two piece. The comments were all the same- love the one piece but if you can pull off a two piece you should do it!
I, on the other hand, feel completely different about the subject. I feel like it’s harder to pull off a one piece! Being small, I do find that bikinis look better on me because they don’t overwhelm. I tend to wear them not because of sex appeal or tan lines, but frankly because the cut and crazy bold patterns of swimsuits just look better on me when they are smaller, and don’t take over my entire body.
Back to the graphic print swimsuit debate. Once, I tried them both on, for me the hands down winner was the stripe one piece, and I’ll easily tell you why. With something like stripes, which can be lengthening or draw your eye in different directions, I found that with the bikini the stripes were chopped off and going in so many different directions it was just not as flattering on me. The one piece version had the exact opposite effect. It was lengthening and draws your eye in a cohesive direction.
When I ordered this particular stripe one piece I didn’t even notice the back cutout detail or the removable straps, so it was a total bonus when I unwrapped it. I love the strapless look, as it has a retro, dolce vita vibe. I like wearing it with shorts and skirts as opposed to dresses to highlight it as a top.
