As we wind up Plaid Week here on The Style Safari, I’m here to remind you that there are many other colors and forms of plaid that are still relevant and cool for this holiday season. You don’t have to dress in red and green plaid in order to be festive, as any plaid- even mint – will really work for the season. The trick to making these work for winter as opposed to, say, spring, is by layering cozy textures with them.
I put this outfit together somewhat backwards. First, I bought the mint coat on ASOS thinkingĀ that I would pair it will some cool girl jeans and boots. Separately, I went shopping in search of a plaid look. Although there were plenty of regular plaid shirts out there (of which I’m sure you already own a ton) I really didn’t find anything that stood out to me.
In Free People, I happened upon this mint knit hat, which I thought might be the same color as my mint jacket. I took it home thinking I might be on to something, however I still didn’t have the plaid piece to tie it all together. The next step was to dig through my skirt drawer looking for my white plaid skirt that I thought could be the lifesaver. But then, just like the heavens opening up and shining down on my drawer telling me to dig to the verrrrrry bottom did I find the whole skirt to tie it all together. What is the point of my story? Actually, I’m not really sure. I think I have 2 conclusions. The firstĀ is that you should never settle for a boring plaid shirt! There is always something better out there if you look a little deeper. The second is that if you tend to shop in similar colors all the time like me – see my styling tip sheet here! – then you will notice you will always have something that matches!
