Fashion is cyclical. As Miranda Priestly famously deadpans in my favorite movie “Florals? For Spring. Groundbreaking.” we all know the same trends rotate in and out every year. Over the next few weeks I am going to take you through many of this year’s fall trends, first starting off with one that definitely appears every year, Menswear.
The menswear trend appears almost every year due to the abundance of obvious details for colder weather; plaid, pants, and blazers for layering. What changes year after year is how you wear them. Sometimes they are oversized, sometimes they are layered over feminine silk tops for contrast. This years menswear trend is slim, modern, and just as suitable for work as it is a night out.
My ‘pantsuit’ is clearly made up of mis-matching separates, both of which are done in traditional menswear fabrics- plaid and herringbone. I feel strongly about the ability to mix and match patterns like these. They fall into one clear category but provide visual interest when mixing them together that makes people look twice.
You have seen me wear this outfit before- do you remember it here? Back then I layered it over a turtleneck and with black accessories. This time paired with chunkier brogues (again with the menswear trend!) and pops of bright green in my accessories, it has a more modern look. It doesn’t matter that the greens don’t match. What is important is that the natural menswear outfit provides a great canvas to choose a bright accessory- which can be your own take on this years repetitive menswear trend.
