Hi Everyone!! I am so excited to share with you one of my first sponsored design projects, something that I have been itching to share with you all for weeks now…. my JUICE BEAUTY DRESS!!!
Juice Beauty, which by now you know is my absolute favorite clean beauty brand, asked me up to their stunning in Healdsburg, CA a few weeks ago which overlooks the Sonoma Valley. I learned about all of the ingredients like grapeseed oil (obviously), olive squalene, green apple and rose that are grown on the farm and used in many of my favorite products, like my absolute favorite Green Apple Exfoliating Peel, and their brand new Vinifera Replenishing Oil. To be able to spend time with the founder Karen Behnke and hear straight from her mouth all about the high quality ingredients that are used in their non-toxic product line, was truly a unique experience that allowed me to get to know the product line even better. To say Juice Beauty is ‘Farm to Beauty’ in an understatement!
So what does this mean for my Juice Beauty Dress?
I wanted to create something with zero waste, in order to reflect on Juice Beauty’s mission to use recycled packaging for all of their products, which meant digging through my fabric stash. I eventually found the most perfect fabric print, with chartreuse faces on an ivory background. Juice Beauty’s signature color is apple green, and this green was just about perfect! To me, the beautiful hand drawn faces represent all of the women from all background and colors that unite in wearing Juice Beauty’s skincare and makeup line. What brings us all together is a commitment toward more sustainably made products, with the highest quality non-toxic ingredients, grown and packaged completely in the United States.

I only had 2 yards of fabric but I wanted to create something diaphanous and lightweight, perfect for warm weather wine tasting in Healdsburg, and strolling the farm in. I aimed for a simple sleeveless bodice with a wide tiered skirt, in order to maximize coverage but also not break up the beautiful fabric into too many pieces.
After I had the basic shape however, I knew I still needed more details to brand it more as a Juice Beauty Dress. After studying the packaging, I knew I wanted to incorporate silver somehow, as well as their juice drop logo. The juice drop as a cutout came to me rather organically (hah, get it?) but I needed to play with cutout cardboard shapes in order to get the placement right so it looked as if the juice drops were cascading down, without revealing anything we don’t want to see!
I used a special satin stitch the create the juice drop shape, and cut out the inside, revealing the most perfect pops of skin, which again… pays homage to Juice Beauty… revealing our best skin!
The silver came to life once I dug through my bead drawer and found a half-used package of tiny silver sequins. I thought it would be a fun idea to give several of the women some bling to catch the light when twirling in my dress! There are necklaces, earrings and hair clips scattered throughout that give just the right touch of the unexpected.
The dress was absolutely PERFECT for wine tasting up at the farm and super comfortable to be in all day. I worked on a video shoot with the Founder of Juice Beauty, Karen Behnke, which should be revealed soon, and will share it here on this page when it’s finished! She was so thrilled to see my dress, and I was actually proud that I made it work, considering creating a branded dress without it being overt is a tall order. But not only do I love this dress, I will definitely be able to wear it over and over again, as it really speaks to both who I am as a designer, and what the Juice Beauty brand is about
