The first official day of fall is tomorrow, which means, deep breath – Fall fashion. Fall is absolutely the most important season for editorial and sartorial fashion, due to leather, layering and rich hues and textures. When I lived in New York (and worked in fashion) I started shopping and stocking up on fall items back in July, when it’s 100 degrees and humid. Ironically, now that I am in San Francisco and our summer IS fall, I have held off on making any purchases.
That is, until… I went back to New York last week.
Something about being in that city just makes me spend cash money. It’s the culture, the weather, the smell of fashion week in the air, the individuality of each resident of New York. I love how people don’t care about brands, and value how a fabulous look can come from brands both high and high street. That is essentially how I dress. I absolutely see the value in a timeless luxury piece, or something that is a complete work of art. But I also appreciate when a fast fashion brand also creates a work of art, and at a stellar price point.
This H&M Studio top is exactly what I love about fall fashion, and what I mean when I call fashion art. The intricate details on this top truly make it something to frame. The entire bodice and sleeves are made of a lace mesh, and there are intricate ribbon and fabric panels sewn on top giving it a very global vibe. A global vibe thats totally my vibe. Pairing a detailed top like this with a sleek leather pant is a match made in heaven. I love that the pants have an elastic waist and zippered hems- it makes the pull on process far easier than most leather pants, and looks awesome with heels or boots.
What I love about this top is actually how diverse it is for fall fashion. Look for unique sheer tops like this to layer over a bra as I am, or over a black turtleneck. Try it with a knee-length pleated skirt for a more bohemian look, or with a mini and tights for a night out. A statement top like this will stand the test of time. You might not wear it a ton next year- but I guarantee in 5 you will be reaching for it again.
