My latest creation is live and I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out! I created the ombre gingham pattern (of course available for sale on Spoonflower) in 2 different scales in order to coordinate. I wasn’t exactly sure what design the dress would take on but I knew having 2 scales in a similar print would add dimension to even a simple silhouette.
I settled on this simple retro style because gingham in itself is a very retro pattern. The idea here was to take something that could have been extremely old school and update it with the assymetric small scale panel which led into the ruffle. Although there are things that I would fix next time, overall I’m super happy with how great and flattering this dress came out. Mr. R is pretty happy as well, as he even said it was his favorite dress I’ve made so far! But then again, this one really highlights the waist and hips so that’s pretty obvious right…?
We took these pictures out on a dock before date night last Friday, but I can’t wait to wear it again soon for a day activity like wine tasting or a bridal shower- I think the shape and fabric combo makes it work for almost any occasion!
Can’t sew a lick but love the look of gingham? I’ve created a master roundup of similar ladylike gingham dresses below – many of which are on sale!
