I shared some initial images of this handmade organza two piece set when I styled the top with a pair of jeans about a month ago. It was part of a 3 part ‘sew along’ series that I shared on my YouTube Channel, with the hopes of inspiring others to learn to make their own patterns and sew this top on their own time. Later, when I realized I had plenty of excess fabric, I made a quick matching skirt to rock on my NYC trip, with a white tee and blazer.
I knew I was bold enough to wear the two items together, but I don’t quite have a social calendar full of parties and galas, so I knew shooting this look was going to be a special affair. I often feel like the clothing I make doesn’t quite get the photographs and editorial service it deserves, not because they are so amazing, but because I spend so much time on them that I want to make sure they get better treatment than clothing items you can buy off the rack. I wanted to immortalize the ethereal beauty of these pieces, and let the wind and my dancing feet show them off!
Lindsey of Lindsey Masterson Photography got my vision right away, and we managed to snap these photos in 10 minutes in a newly mowed clearing by my house. I love that to get professional, editorial-worthy images you don’t need an expensive hair and makeup team, special lighting and tons of editing knowledge. All you need is a little creativity and in this case, movement, and let the sun and wind do the rest!
