I post about stripes A LOT on this website, but I believe that as a staple in anyone’s wardrobe, you constantly need to find new ways to wear them. Stripes on stripes is not necessarily new, but in simple black and white and varying horizontal and vertical directions, the look is optic but not over the top. Layering a great denim jacket (oversize please!) on top is a great way to break up the color monotony and tone the look down for everyday.
In order to style your stripes on stripes correctly, look for stripes of a similar width. Pairing too thin or too wide with its opposite can work, but becomes a different look. Also, make sure the white grounds are equal, and that one isn’t more cream or ivory colored than the other. When choosing the direction of your stripes, I find it is easier to shop vertical for the pants and horizontal for the top, as this is the most flattering direction for both. Lastly, in order to wear your stripes on stripes to perfection, keep the additional accessories in a contrasting but uniform color palette. Avoid black or white shoes as that will end up looking dated, and instead pick any shoe/bag combinations that match, such as red, blue or pink.
I am pretty obsessed with this look and will have to add it to my roundup of how I wear stripes! If you are looking for my favorite items in order to complete this stripes on stripes look- check out the shopping links below!
