Carry-on Packing Tips for London
I’m heading to London for 9 days and wanted to share with you some more carry-on packing tips! I am heading to London to take a creative patternmaking class at Central St. Martins! I am so excited because I’ve wanted for a very long time to be able to have an extended stay in one foreign city, so I can act like a local and get to know a city in a non-touristy way. My mom is joining me, and we are staying in an AirBnB in Fitzrovia. If you have any food/drink/shopping options in the central London area please let me know, as I would love to check them out during my stay.

Ok, back to the topic at hand. I will actually be checking in my bag for this trip because I have to bring all sorts of sewing supplies like scissors, needles and other non-TSA-compliant tools, but I still have to pack my bag as if it’s a carry-on. That means making the most of the carry-on packing tips I have shared before, such as the 3 shoe rule, and packing 8 items for 12 different looks. That’s right, I have put together 12 looks out of 8 items from my closet (this is real people- what I’m actually packing!) and 6 of those items are on my 11 Closet essentials list (2 of them are variations).
Click through the gallery above and don’t forget to pin the cheat sheet below for carry-on packing tips and outfit lay outs of all 12 looks. I have linked to the these items and similar ones below so that you can shop and recreate these looks for your next vacation!
What I packed:
1. Long Green Vest: I actually sewed one for myself that I’m dying to shoot and share with you. I am loving olive green right now and it is the perfect carry-on piece because it goes with black, white, red, orange, navy blue, purple, yellow- really anything! I like a long style as you can layer it over short pieces or even wear it as a dress
2. Mixed Print Dress: you should always have at least one statement piece in your suitcase and this dress is it for me. Plus the snap closure down the front makes it versatile for wearing as a jacket or a shirt with the lower snaps un-snapped.
3. Stripe Turtleneck: Do I really have to tell you how much I like stripes? Read about it here
4. Relaxed Boyfriend Jeans: Chic jeans that are comfortable and won’t get stretched out are a cool girl staple. I love how these are tailored so that I won’t give off a sloppy impression!
5. Leather Moto Jacket: This the the perfect outerwear for 50-60 degrees. You can layer it over a heavier turtleneck or a tee depending on the weather and always feel cool. Plus I think a leather jacket is a London staple!
6. Leather Leggings: Another must for London and that in-between weather. They always look cool and you can dress them up or down comfortably
7. White Turtleneck: I went back and forth between black and white for this piece, but either way a close knit field turtleneck is a great layering piece and always looks chic. I pack them for every winter/spring/fall trip!
8. Faux leather skirt: A leather or vegan leather skirt is definitely one of my closet staples- I figure this one will be a great option to dress up with boots or down with sneakers, and throwing in tights for colder weather will still make it look cool while providing warmth.
