Dressing for summer weather in the mountains or lakes is always tricky. While of course I know most of us want to only wear jean shorts and sweatshirts and flip flops, this is a fashion blog! It’s my duty (but also my pleasure) to find ways to be comfortable for mountain and lake weather while still maintaining an effortless sense of style.
The trick to this look is to work from the ground up. Ankle boots with fringe or a tribal detail are cute and practical for most outdoor terrain, and picking a lighter color makes them stand out for summer against your darker winter versions.
The second step is layering a loose chunky cardigan or wrap over a more fitted dress silhouette. Layering knit pieces in a similar color palette but with varying geometric prints is a great way to maintain max comfort and style, and still be appropriate for summer cookouts, concerts and beachside picnics.
