For those of you who know me personally you know that I analyze things… A LOT. I can analyze a text message, a menu or a conversation to the death, and usually it gets me nowhere. The only time it brings me any positivity is when I’m analyzing an outfit or a room to understand exactly how and why it works together.
Often we look at pictures and just say… “Ooh I love that” but don’t really look deeper to understand why we love the room and why it works. Not understanding what makes a room tick makes it almost impossible to emulate the look in our own homes! Hence a new series called “Anatomy of…”.
Today we’re kicking off the series with Anatomy of a Room: Masculine vs. Feminine Styling with two casual and inviting rooms. They are both well ‘collected’ and have a lived-in vibe, but one feels more feminine and girly, while the other is masculine and a bit rustic.
Let’s dive deeper, shall we?
Feminine + Bohemian Living Room
This airy and bohemian living room is oozing with feminine french style and comfort. J’adore the soft pink and deep purple together, and love the mini library/art gallery on the back wall. What’s amazing about this room is how it feels lived in and comfy at the same time as glamorous. It’s a perfect example of how ‘clutter’ can be organized and displayed in a way that shows your personal style without taking over a room. Be sure to check out the full home tour in the link above! Now let’s break it down.
Now that we understand the beautiful bohemian living room, let’s take a look at our masculine room.
Masculine + Global Bedroom
I can’t get enough of this bedroom. For one, the olive green walls are stunning and unique. I myself have dark walls in my bedroom and love the zen-like mood it lends to the space, which encourages restful deep sleep. Everywhere you look there is another texture and pattern, but it’s layered so well that your eyes aren’t darting around on overload. The full room renovation is in the link above, so be sure to check out how each nook and cranny of the room carries the masculine and global themes highlighted below.
I love both rooms and definitely think these rooms to argue for both Masculine vs. Feminine styling in your own home. Which do you prefer?
