While it’s true that many of the outfits I wear on this blog are planned out in advance, another half evolve out of a concept on a whim. And I say that with the utmost humor in mind. Would you believe that this outfit above was originally conceived as a ‘how to look chic while braving the rain’ look? No? Well, I’ll prove it to you.
My original intention was to find something chic to wear in the rain, because, well here in Northern California we have had 11 straight days of downpours and I consistently feel as if I look like a rag bag. So I thought, this will be a challenge, why don’t I show my readers how to look cute in the rain without rainboots? The rationale behind that decision was plain. I, simply, do not own a pair of rainboots. Why? because I hate them. Why? Dear reader, because I HATE the rain.
Which brings me to the raincoat portion of our discussion- I don’t own one of those either. Now you probably understand why I hate the rain! There is just not one coat out there that is water-repellant, has a hood, and looks great for date night. Yes there are tons of anoraks but I hate that look so no thanks. So here I am, no raincoat and no rainboots thinking I am going to show you a great rain look. Because I am some sort of rain outfit wiz. Because if I was I would look cute in the rain, which I don’t. So I guess this whole project is more for me than you right? You all own raincoats. You own wellies. You pass me in the rain thinking, what is that idiot wearing? Where does she think she is going?
Anyway, I digress. So this outfit started with my regular black over the knee boots underneath the skirt, with a long camel coat over, and my DIY skinny scarf draped over the coat, all while holding an umbrella. To give you a visual aid, I looked like Mary Poppins!
Unfortunately no spoonful of sugar was going to make this look go down easy, so I swapped the long coat with this much cooler shorter one. Then I thought the sweater I was wearing underneath was too bulky so I changed into my new bell sleeve crop top that is so chic it’s like instant outfit steroids. But oh man, those “rain boots” were just weighing me down… wouldn’t this look be better better with some sky high YSL’s? You betcha! And let’s ditch that umbrella and take this photo in a hallway so we don’t get soaked, don’t you think?
Well there you go. This is the making of a rain look of the day for you, my dear readers. What started as one thing finished rather differently, but in the end, I am completely in love with this look!
Pixie Market Bell Sleeve top (I can’t wait to show you more looks with this top!!!), Helmut Lang jacket (old, but available on theRealReal for a STEAL!), Saint Laurent Janis pumps (nude on sale here), old midi skirt but love this and this option
