This Thanksgiving I will be at my in-law’s in Charlotte, and although I am always excited to visit and celebrate with them (seriously, the food is unreal), I am a bit sad not to get to show off some of my new items from my wedding registry. So, what’s a girl to do? Make tuesday night chili extra special by jazzing the table up with an edible centerpiece and set it for 4 even though it’s just me and Mr. R!
When I registered I couldn’t decide whether I should go for plates in silver or gold since I love both equally, but rather decided on a dinner plate that has elements of gold, black and white which can easily blend with any metallic. Although the formal salad plates I registered for haven’t come yet, I did receive my casual plates from Crate & Barrel. I may have just registered for these because they are called ‘Marin’ and I just moved to Marin county…. but I guess that’s why they name it so- to hook suckers like me. Anyway I love these dishes. I registered for white and grey versions for layering, and love how the casual glaze and rough edges of these plates still works with the very formal stripes of my fine china dinner plate. Never one to shy away from gilded accessories, I’ve added touches of silver and gold throughout to make the dinner table truly sing, even if it really is just for chili night.
For a centerpiece, I love flowers (who doesn’t?) but honestly can’t get over the price one has to pay to make a decent arrangement. Instead, I just buy extra of whatever fruit or veggie is in season or at a good place at the market, and layer it as high as I can. There are so many upsides to this: 1. people can nibble all night! 2. food doesn’t die or go to waste 3. it smells INCREDIBLE. Seriously, that’s why it’s good to cut open the oranges or layer in rosemary and other fresh herbs. Nothing gets people ready to eat a Turkey (or turkey chili) than warming up their taste buds through their nose!
