Two weeks ago we talked about how to decide what your wedding ‘look’ is. Assuming you took my little quiz and it somehow gave you the venue clarity that you were looking for, this week we are moving on to ‘Settin’ the Mood’.
While a décor mood board is by no means a wedding essential, it certainly helps visualize color and concept, which I’ve realized is vital to be able to communicate your vision properly. And since several coordinators, photographers and friends have asked what the ‘look’ will be for the wedding, this is certainly easier than talking their ear off.
Since I’ve been pinning like crazy for the past 5 months brainstorming different moods and looks for my wedding, I thought I would share some of my ideas in mood board form. Let me know your thoughts- they are all very different ideas!
My favorite color is emerald green and I love the richness it adds to basic black and gold. This color palette lends itself to a fancy shmancy indoor event, and since it is so rich in color, I would balance it with white roses and hydrangeas. My look would be Oscars glam, with hair up in a chic chignon and statement earrings and accessories that bring out the deep emerald color of the Bridesmaid dresses.
Shades of pale was a big trend for 2014, and I can’t help but fall into submission since the look is so timeless and sophisticated. I would keep the table decor and bridesmaids dresses neutral with shades of white and grey, and layer on oodles of romantic white candles and lights for ambiance. This would allow the overarching botanical theme- garlands of leaves and herbs- to take over, adorning everything from the head table to the chuppah to the invitations.
My quirkiest board yet, this is preppy and fun and colorful and although typically not me, I think that’s what the appeal is. Black and white striped runners and hints of gold tie nicely with bright pink, yellow and purple flowers, and a naked cake layered with berries and cream adds a sweet touch. Bridesmaids would wear black to let their bouquets shine, which would leave the bride and groom to wear all white.
