I’m always on the hunt for more sustainable fashion brands as options for the established ones that I highlighted in this post. More and more companies are launching with sustainable ethos’ from the get-go, but there are also a ton of brands that are altering their existing practices to reflect a more fair-trade, sustainable approach, and we love them just as much. While I applaud any company that puts sustainability at the forefront of their design approach, I am specifically always on the hunt for brands that are fashion forward, taking design risks, and are providing true stylish alternatives to the many mainstream brands out there. Mother of Pearl

This UK based designer brand is taking a full circle approach, and making sure that sustainability is part of the brand’s DNA. Even their headquarters is taking strides to be better to the environment, from packaging-free vegetarian lunches to a single use plastic bottle ban in the studio. Their product uses green energy suppliers, plant based or recycled packaging, and is made with fair trade practices. I love that all the products on their website have a unique filtering capability so you can see how everything stacks up in their 10 sustainability pillars. Bonus points that they ALSO provide their product for rent on Rent the Runway!

KitX

KitX aims to be on the forefront of fashion and sustainability, and has done a killer job breaking down the key components of sustainable fashion: traceability of the materials, and the hazardous conditions to workers. Both are meticulously cared for, without sacrificing any style or forward-thinking fashion. In additional, KitX supports the 10 principles defined by the UN Global Compact which is a sustainable, principle-based framework for businesses.

AMUR

AMUR literally stands for ‘A Mindful Use of Resources’ which about says it all. I couldn’t agree more with their philosophy that ‘mindful living will always be in style’, and it’s hard to argue with once you see how beautiful and feminine the clothing is. A woman shouldn’t have to choose between looking and feeling beautiful and doing right by the environment, and these clothes reflect that perfectly. Another bonus point here for being available to rent on Rent the Runway!

TOME

Tome was a finalist in the prestigious CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in 2013, but it wasn’t until 2015 when they shifted their brand to make greater strides toward sustainability. They ensure their items are ethically produced, while also giving a nod to inclusivity and diversity. The Tome woman is practical and straightforward, but appreciates architectural cuts and practical details

Colovos

The husband-wife duo that resurrected Helmut Lang launched their own eponymous brand in 2016. Colovos recently launched an all-denim capsule collection made of all environmentally friendly denim, but they are known to use faux fur, leather-free-leather and up-cycled plastic waste among their offering of sustainable materials. Expect the same fairly androgynous cool-girl vibes that they are known for, which is a nice alternative to the bohemian vibe of a lot of sustainable brands.

Doen

Doen aims to close the gender and wage gap for females, working with vertically integrated factories that support women’s causes such as funding 100% of the education for children of it’s employees. They also design with sustainable, natural fabrics and use recycled packaging, and work with shippers that use 90% post-consumer waste materials. They are making strides with their business every day to be even more resourceful, and take an approach when designing of ‘fewer, better things’. Their aesthetic has a beautiful California free-spirit vibe, guaranteeing everything you buy will be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

BITE Studios

Bite Studios‘ aesthetic reflects a more streamlined, architectural girl, and I can’t get enough of their smart tailoring and outerwear. 100% of Bite’s clothing is GOTS certified, meaning it passes even the strictest of fiber testing and production standards.
