Every season I have a bit of a wardrobe revelation where I discover a new ‘uniform’ that helps me navigate the trends but still allows me to be me. I am always looking for pieces that are comfortable and easy to wear, but without sacrificing style, and this spring for me the look is grounded in architectural knitwear and silk skirts.
My 5 easy pieces for spring are also perfect for the woman on the go, with heel heights that are manageable to run around in, a skirt length that is demure but allows for mobility (no pencil skirts here!) and a waisted, belted silhouette that is flattering on every woman’s shape. Finish off the look with this season’s biggest trend – a statement hair accessory, and pouf(!) you’ve saved another 10 minutes on not having to do your hair that day. Talk about a look that has it all!
5 Easy Pieces for Spring
1. Sculptural Sweater
Look for either a chunkier knit (not too thick!) that has some structure in the sleeve or neckline. The fact that part of this sweater stands away from the body is what makes it so lovely in contrast to the silkier drape of the skirt. Another option is a lighter weight sweater with a kimono sleeve or exaggerated body shape. Either shape looks nice belted so to make the waist look even smaller.
2. Silky Midi Skirt
A patterned silk or satin skirt with a midi length is demure but freeing. It’s been a long time since such a simple, classic shape was in style, potentially the first time in my adult fashion life! Personally, I love how easy it is (to afford and to make!) and the fact that wearing pattern on bottom (not on top) makes a lot of ‘louder’ prints easier to wear. Since they are away from your face, you can balance the print with a solid sweater and shoe, but still look standout.
3. Architectural Mule
Ok, so mine aren’t that architectural, but the big oversized bow does the trick! Essentially we are looking for a low-heeled mule with an exaggerated shape or bold heel of some sort. The weirder, the better, as this balances out the overall femininity of the whole look. If heels aren’t your thing, this look would also look killer with a pair of sneakers, so don’t shy away if you can’t behind the shoe! Zara has some of my favorites here and here but I’ve linked a few more I love below!
4. Accent Belt
Mentioned above, the belt is crucial to cinch it all in, providing a hint of ‘body’ underneath all that fabric. Bonus points if it’s textured or patterned in some way, but really, any belt will do!
5. Structured Head Band or Oversize Hair Clip
The accessory of 2019 is probably my favorite yet. Affordable, prolific, and great for postpartum baby hairs and post-gym grease, the statement hair accessory is the single saving grace of ANY look this spring. Don’t wait, because the second you buy one you will wonder how you’ve possibly been doing your hair for the past few years!
