You’ve seen a plaid scarf worn here, there and everywhere in-between. You’ve foolishly bought several thinking THIS is the scarf of the season, not realizing that there is no winter long or cold enough for you to wear every one of those heavy plaid scarves. I am here to save the day! Today I am showing you how to re-purpose that plaid scarf for the holiday season, as a festive update to your home decor. I have been decorating with my scarves for years. However, this year I have gone all out in my home using them as a cohesive plaid scheme in my living room. I am going to show you how to style your plaid scarf in the home 3 ways: as a blanket, as a runner, and as a pillow!
Style your plaid scarf as a blanket
You can handle this one. Simply fold your plaid scarf and drape over a chair or couch. If it’s big enough you can even use it at the foot of your bed to add some festive flair. I love decorating with these warm scarves in the winter as they warm up a cold plastic or leather seat, and your guests can easily wrap up in them if it gets chilly!
Style your plaid scarf as a runner
My entry way buffet is a non-stop rotation of holiday decor, to set the mood for my home and what season or emotion I am feeling at the moment. Our family is all-inclusive for the families, so I decorated the buffet with my blue plaid scarf. Using our menorah and a ton of candles, I styled it with a ‘Festival of Lights’ theme in blue and white to create a special area for our Hannukah celebrations. The scarf as a runner on a buffet or entry table really warms up the space as opposed to the cold hard plain wood surface.
Style your plaid scarf as a pillow cover
We’ve come to my absolute favorite way to style a scarf! Just a few folds and a cleverly hidden safety pin later, and you’ve got an instant couch refresh. I use this trick year round! I have an overload of plaid scarves in the winter, and mixing all the colors and patterns together makes for a fun focal point in my living room. If you look closely at the second picture you can see the folds in the pillow on the left. People will marvel at how quickly (and effortlessly) you change your room around with this little trick! Now how badly do you want to stop wearing your scarves and start decorating with them?
