Yay! Today I am sharing with you a really fun and easy project to do to add some color and life to a simple side table. Print is a great way to add a unique element into a space, but today instead of adding print through pillows and curtains, we are going to utilize wallpaper to add it to the top of a side table!
What you need:
1. Side table (mine is old, from Homegoods
2. Sandpaper
3. Either wall or wood paint, I used artist’s acrylic paint
4. Paintbrush
5. Pencil
6. Scissors
7. Black Duct tape
8. Removable wallpaper (mine is from one of my designs, available by the foot in my Spoonflower shop)
Step 1: Sand down any area of the table that you will be painting or applying the wallpaper too. You want to scuff it up slightly so that the paint/adhesive has a rough surface to adhere to.
Step 2: Begin painting any parts of the table that won’t go with the wallpaper top. I painted the sides and bottom to ensure that no blue was showing. Let paint dry.
Step 3: Trace the surface of the table on your wallpaper and cut around the edge.
Step 4: Peel the wallpaper cutout from its backing and adhere to the top of the tabletop. Apply slowly and reposition as needed, making sure to smooth out all of the air bubbles.
Step 5: Apply the black duct tape around the edges of the table to give a nice shiny, finished edging.
Step 6: Use the scissors to cut closely to the loose edge of the duct tape, leaving about 1/4″ free to press down firmly underneath the table.
That’s it! This table is SUPER easy to do and adds a major style upgrade to any reading nook. It took me less than an hour not including paint dry time and its one of my most favorite DIY projects I’ve done.
Check out the finished product in the office I designed it for, where the chartreuse triangle print matches perfectly with my chartreuse shelves. There are lots of other print designs in my shop that would also be great for this project, especially the cheetah and the african mud cloth print.
