Playing with Proportions

I have to admit that I have had this sheer, pleated hi-low top for almost a year and I never wore it. Although it has a ton of interest, it somehow never worked with the skinny jean outfits I planned. Finally it felt right with a simple miniskirt- the voluminous silhouette pairs back well to a little skin!

Skirt: Zara, old. Top: H&M, clearly old. Shoes: H&M ($35!). Bag: J.Crew (other colors here). Jewelry: Soho street vendor, H&M, Stefanie Marie Designs

Jewel Tones

Hot weather makes it so hard to dress appropriately. When you’re outside, you want to wear as little as possible, when you’re inside, you need a cover-up to keep you from freezing in the air conditioning. A light blouse over a summer dress is my solution to the problem, and I chose semi-clashing jewel tones to brighten up my look!

Shirt: Joe Fresh (seen here). Dress: H&M (old). Shoes: Gap (old). Brooch: See DIY here. Necklace: Banana Republic. Hat: Forever21

Thurs-DIY: Nailpolish Bottle Bud Vases

I’ve wanted to use bud vases to display flowers for a while now, but I just can’t bring myself to pay $10 or more for itty-bitty vases to decorate unexciting areas of my house like the toilet. In comes my simple DIY for nailpolish bottle bud vases! This project is so simple and cheap, and I love that I can use things that I already have lying around the house. Decorate your vases with spray paint alone, or use masking tape, puff paint or even (gasp!) nailpolish to decorate them even more!

Supplies:

1. Nailpolish bottles

2. Spray Paint

I love using them as a simple way to decorate the bathroom!

Baby One More Time

Preppy separates balanced with a hint of midriff? Sounds like a recipe for a great outfit or a Britney Spears video. I chose the former.

Jacket: H&M (seen here). Pants: J.Crew Sale (seen here). Shoes: H&M (seen here). Crop Top: American Apparel (can’t get enough of it! – seen here). (Yep, lots of remixing new and old this week!) Jewelry: Souvenirs from India, H&M, Forever21

Summer Work Outfit Inspiration

It’s getting to that point in the summer where the oppressive heat is no longer a welcome novelty and we are desperately searching our closets for new summer outfit inspiration. Add to my personal fire a new job that I started yesterday (yay!), and now I really have no idea what to wear. It’s always hard to balance being fashionable and professional, but the summer months exacerbate the problem because it becomes impossible to balance the heat outside with overly air-conditioned offices. Anyway, here are some summer looks from my favorite style bloggers that will inspire my summer work wardrobe.

Wendy- above and below- always takes neutrals and classic black to new heights. The hi-low hem on the top skirt is perfection for the office, and the below striped ensemble is both eye-catching and subdued- a great balance.

I love Krystal’s playful and funky take on fashion. The top outfit is super easy to emulate- white blazers are a summer staple, and look great over any colorful dress. The below look has so much intrigue…  I love the cropped, boxy top silhouette with the full skirt- it feels as if she’s the heroine of a spanish romance novel.

Blair is always chic- but I most love her ability to mix and match separates to create a funky, colorful, all-american look. The top look would be easy to recreate with a bold top and patterned skirt, and the bottom look is basically me in a nutshell. I have a passion for pencil skirts, and combined with an off-color striped top, the look is professional and whimsical!

Karla has a similar ability to mix and match separates, but she always in a slightly more sexy, undone manner. I love how the top outfit juxtaposes an oversize men’s shirt with a feminine lacy skirt, both in the same color palette. Meanwhile, I can’t get enough of said pencil skirts and crop tops, which is what constantly brings me back to the below outfit (I can get away with that much skin. right? please?)

Nicole brings the riskier looks to this collection. I love the idea of billowy pants in the summer, and the sheer, lacy top makes the tube top slightly more appropriate for work. The below look would be a dream for me- a brocade patterned short suit for summer is chic and put-together, albeit maybe showing too much leg. But oh, how I would love to get away with it!

What are your favorite looks for looking profresh in the summer?
