Whew! I have a super fun FRIDIY planned today and as you are reading this I am carrying around my new fabric covered box bag to dinner! I’ve have long seen fabric covered box bags like this one and this one, and was so excited to try to make one with my own supplies. This whole process took less than an hour and the bag looks like a million bucks!
What you Need (and some things you don’t- like the drill which I thought I needed when I took the pic, but honestly a little muscle is all you need):
2. Fun fabric like my verdant green monarch butterfly design available for sale!
3. Craft glue and Foam Brush
5. 8 Brass Decorative corners (available at your local hardware store)
6. 2 Brass Ring holders (also available at your hardware store)
7. 4 brass tacks
8. 2 large jump rings and brass or gold chain (available at a craft store)
9. Scissors
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Measure out the 2 largest sides of your box and cut out your fabric just a tad smaller than that.
Step 2: Apply your glue and spread it out with your foam brush allowing no lumps or bumps, so the fabric lays flat
Step 3: Whip out your duct tape and starting from the bottom slowly apply the duct tape around the middle of the box, being sure to cut around and clasps or hinges with scissors
Step 4: Cut smaller strips the length and width of your box and fold over the edge, overlapping the fabric
Step 5: Now it’s time to add the bling bling! Arrange your decorative corners on the box and screw in the mini screws that come with it. You can use your hand or use a mini screwdriver (whichever is easiest! – the wood is pretty soft so you would be surprised at how strong you are)
Step 6: Screw in the ring holders by hand on each side of the box, just about 3/4″ down from the top center.
Step 7: Fold your jump rings around the ring holder and the chain strap on both sides. I chose a chain remnant that I had which was about shoulder length, but you can choose any length you prefer.
Step 8: Press in your brass tacks by hand as little feet to help protect the bottom of your cute little box bag! You’re done!
HOW STINKIN’ CUTE IS THIS BAG???
Look at how much it fits!
I’m obsessed with those cute little metal corners- it makes it look so authentic!
