I cannot believe this day has come! After working on this house for 2 months (seriously, today is my 2 month wedding anniversary, so its been a quick 8 weeks) I am finally ready to reveal our kitchen renovation/redecoration. I went through most of my inspiration photos in this post, so you already have an idea that white cabinets were a must have for our small galley kitchen.
The first thing to do was jackhammer those dated floor tiles and install engineered hardwood flooring to modernize the space. We ran the flooring throughout the rest of the house to really give the illusion of an open kitchen since it’s not a large size space. Changing the countertops was not in the cards budget-wise, and original plans to change the sink and faucet were cancelled once we updated some other parts of the kitchen and saw our results. It’s amazing was paint can do. Really. I strongly suggest if you are due for an update and short on cash, buy yourself some paint and go nuts! Even on the art! I painted this quick DIY brushstroke canvas modeled after the back of our wedding invitations, so even though it is abstract and quick, it’s a constant reminder of our wedding.

The upgrade that shockingly took the longest was actually the cabinet hardware. I originally wanted brass handles and a sink faucet, but I really struggled to find the finish I wanted under $10 a handle. Since we really wanted to stick to a budget for this project, I held off on ordering the ones I was dying for, and instead bought some knock-offs online that when seen in person were truly hideous. I was completely at a loss for what I wanted to do next, until my 18th trip to Home Depot where I stumbled upon these acrylic and nickel babies that were marked ‘NEW’ and I bought the whole supply. They are the perfect sparkly jewelry to make my kitchen shine and everyone who sees my kitchen can’t believe they are from Home Depot!
It was really important for Mr. R and I that we have a little nook for our coffee and tea station. We like to always have it at the ready for ourselves and guests, and this jewelry box that I had from Pottery Barn was perfectly repurposed into a tea and Nespresso station (the bottom layer holds even more color coordinated capsules!).
The final pieces of the puzzle for a white kitchen is adding some personality and color to bring it to life. I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with Aelfie and her funky, bright and ethnic designs, and knew I just had to have her make me a custom rug for my kitchen. If you follow me on instagram you also know it’s the perfect backdrop for #shoefies. The moravian star light pendant was the final touch that was done 2 nights ago, to replace the hideous track lighting that reminded me of my first cubicle space. I love how the shape plays off of the triangles in the rug and gives a global feel. The space overall feels bright, personal, and perfect for spending most of my day!
