While this week I do not have a #WeddingWednesday post for you, I am excited because next week I will be announcing some news that is going to massively shake up some things in my life as well as on this blog. Hint hint, it might involve some redecoration plans!
Planning a wedding and redecorating a home are very similar projects to me, and albeit both stressful, I find them somehow therapeutic. Both projects give me the opportunity to highlight my individual style and taste, allow me to show versatility in aesthetic and talent (I don’t just love working in a cubicle people!), and provide ample time both DIY projects and learning experiences. Also, at the end of planning both there is a party to be had and a large bottle of champagne to be popped, so you definitely won’t find me complaining.
One of the things I am dying to do is redecorate our bedroom. Mr. R and I have shared the same wood headboard and BERTA (?) Ikea nightstands that my mom bought me after college, and every few years we just update with new bedding and throw pillows. As much as that has helped to personalize our bedding set, this time I’m looking for a much more significant change to the bedroom. We’re talking a beautiful upholstered bed frame, decorative nightstands and bedside lamps, cozy bedding and most significantly, painted walls.
So long white apartment walls! While I love the clean modern look of some of these trendy all white and shag rug natural bedrooms, Mr. R and I are looking for something much more intimate, comfortable and cozy, a place of quite sanctuary, where the materials are lush and the colors literally put you to sleep. I have long drooled over the dark bedroom walls in many design magazines and blogs in this Pinterest board, and now it’s my time to bring that dream to reality.

This room seems the most approachable and realistic for my new bedroom. The walls are a very dark charcoal that are almost black, and I love how the winged tufted oat colored headboard pops against the darkness. Decorating with a pop color against dark walls can be overload, so I love how this designer used animal prints (always a neutral!) for interest.
A dream is a wish your heart makes…. and my heart is wishing for the elaborate details in this chambre. The gilded canopy bed and ceiling trim are perfect counterpoints to the warm texture of the blankets and rugs. And that moulding along the walls? be still, my heart…
I get scared of using navy blue for a room as I think it can go preppy or nautical really fast, but the smokey grey color of this wall completely avoids that. The soft textures in the drapery and and florals balance out the greek key details, making this room soft and approachable, not cold.
A black bedroom makes a statement. It may say, “I’m dark and I know it so leave me alone”, but there’s no denying that this coloring would make it easy to sleep in late on weekends. Glass and metallics add a bit of shine and life to the deep hue.
This gorgeous grey room has beautiful textured grasscloth wallpaper- an easy way to add warmth to any space. I’m also pleasantly surprised by the addition of the light blue in this room. It’s so soft and feminine, without feeling too juvenile.
Deep breaths because this one might be my favorite. It pains me because I love it so sosossososo much but there is no way it would ever work in my bedroom space. the paneling on the walls, the stunning lucite lamps, that gold frame, and the THICK border on that duvet and shams and just begging for me to jump right in and order room service. Or I guess breakfast in bed from Mr. R…
The grayish blue in this room is reminiscent of the first few images, but what I love here is the modern use of textures and prints in the artwork and pillows. I don’t love the drapery and would probably replace with simple white, but the other mix of genres really makes this bedroom feel modern and cool.
This last one is so intriguing because of where the designer has chosen to start the dark wall color. Leaving ~18 from the ceiling has simulated a ‘halo’ light effect which lightens the space and allows you to look upward. While I’m not sure this would work in my bedroom either, I do think it’s a fantastic idea for a guest bedroom or a dining room space. What I will steal from this image is the pop color lamps. I so appreciate the unexpected color!
