I miss sewing in my free time so much and a few months ago I finally got around to heading to Mood to make myself a pencil skirt. I always find that the best way to navigate Mood is to have an idea of what kind of thing you want to make: dress, top, skirt etc., and then explore the halls and let the fabric speak to you. Whenever I go in there with a strict plan I almost always come out disappointed, but when I go in with an open mind, I come out inspired and excited to start my project.
I found this abstract black and white brocade pattern that has a bit of metallic, and I thought it would be cool in a pencil skirt for work or for date night. The new part for me in this design was experimenting with embellishment, which is where the lace appliqué came in. I used two different sizes of black embroidered trim to layer up down the side of the skirt to play up the abstract print and I think only doing it on one side gives a bit of unexpected interest.
What do you think? Would you like to see more of these types of projects on the blog?
