Thurs-DIY: Kenneth Jay Lane Bracelet

These days, every time I see a piece of jewelry I like, my first instinct is to see how I can make it myself. This bracelet from Kenneth Jay Lane was an instant inspiration, and I knew I could find an easy way to replicate it. The trickiest part is finding rhinestone beads to your liking, after that, the whole project takes less than an hour!

Supplies:

1. Strip of Aluminum or Copper (mine is from here but you can go to any craft/art store)

2. Strong Shears

3. Wire Cutters

4. 2-3 Yards gold ribbon

5. E6000 Glue

6. Ruler

7. Bottle, rolling pin, or anything else round

8. 2 rhinestone beads. Vintage would be fantastic, but these are from M&J

I’ve worn it every day since I made it. What do you think?

Thurs-DIY: Nailpolish Bottle Bud Vases

I’ve wanted to use bud vases to display flowers for a while now, but I just can’t bring myself to pay $10 or more for itty-bitty vases to decorate unexciting areas of my house like the toilet. In comes my simple DIY for nailpolish bottle bud vases! This project is so simple and cheap, and I love that I can use things that I already have lying around the house. Decorate your vases with spray paint alone, or use masking tape, puff paint or even (gasp!) nailpolish to decorate them even more!

Supplies:

1. Nailpolish bottles

2. Spray Paint

I love using them as a simple way to decorate the bathroom!

Summer at the Met

Moving to New York has affected my style in many ways, but none other than wearing wearing simple dresses for summer. With this heat and humidity, I am constantly searching for breezy cotton dresses that are also sophisticated, so they transition from going to the Met during the day, to out at night (which is how I wore this dress this past weekend). It was so perfect, I am now thinking about buying it in every other color!

Shirtdress: Urban Outfitters (On sale now for $30!!). Shoes: H&M ($35!). Bag: J.Crew sample sale, but similar here. Necklace: Stefanie Marie Collection. Sunglasses: Karen Walker. Jewelry: Souvenir from India, Shotwell SF, Forever21

Thank you Monica for the pics!

Thurs-DIY: Feather Trim Jacket or Vest

Today’s DIY is inspired by the fabulous Elizabeth and James feathered blazer worn above by Krystal, Chiara, and Anh. While I love myself a white blazer anytime of the year, I feel that you can add some fun, frothy feathers to any structured piece to add movement, so I decided to update my black vest. I definitely suggest picking a piece that hits at least at your hip- anything shorter will add too much volume to your waist. So instead of paying $665 for the E&J version, we get a simple look alike for around $10!

Supplies:

1. Jacket or vest in any color

2. Scissors

3. Fabric Glue or E6000 Glue and optional nozzle

4. Pins

5. 2-3 yds of feather trim. I chose faux feathers for $5/yd from Mood, but you can get all types of real feathers for $20-$30 a yard if you so desire. They come in tons of colors and shapes, including the light wispy ones on the E&J blazer.

{I chose to alternate the direction of the feathers}

{Make sure you add the trim below any pockets!}

Thurs-DIY: Tropical Floral Tee

Aloha! This week our DIY is something I’m completely coconuts about- a tropical floral tee! We all know florals have been a big trend for spring, but for summer they are taking a brighter, more festive turn, inspired by Stella McCartney’s luau prints. You can get the looks above for $80 to several hundred… but I decided to replicate it with some bright fabric and a neon shirt for $15! Read on for the how-to’s!

What you need:

1. Any old tee. I prefer brights and neons for this project. Old Navy has some great ones here.

2. 1/2 yd of any floral fabric. Mine is from Mood in NYC but here, here and here are some other options that are cheap cheap cheap!

3. Scissors

4. Fabric Glue

5. Studs and studding supplies. If you do decide to include studs (because I stud EV-ER-Y-THING) then I suggest following my studding tutorial here!

Then wear anywhere you want to bring the Tropics to your life! I personally LOVE the way this came out, and it was so easy. Let me know if you try it!
