New Items in the Stefanie Marie Designs Shop

I am happy to introduce some new items to the Stefanie Marie Designs etsy shop! These pieces are handmade by me, and use a variety of materials that I have fallen in love with. The base material of these pendants is real dyed snakeskin, mounted on either brass or aluminum sheeting. One of the skins I have is over 7 ft long and still has the snake’s face/eyes/nose on it! I love wearing these over a simple tee shirt, and I think it makes a polished statement anywhere from brunch to work to a cocktail hour.

These first 2 pieces are my personal favorite, as they have a kind of eclectic glamour that I am drawn to. I love the juxtaposition of the gemstones against the texture of the snakeskin, and I think the metal fretwork really represents the area of India that I was inspired by when designing these.

This next piece is my ode to colorblocking and a labor of love. Each piece of dyed snakeskin is encased in brass, with hand-mitered corners. The piece definitely makes a statement without being flashy, and I received tons of compliments on it when I wore it out a few weeks ago.

These last two pendants were born as special gifts for my friends, but I loved them so much I decided to include them in the collection as well. I like to think that they are a more toned down version of the first pendant, while still maintaining some sparkle. The inspiration around the first was to represent the diamonds on an engagement ring – which makes it a fabulous gift for a newly engaged friend or as bridesmaids gifts. The below pendant is a cool, navy blue which is versatile, understated and elegant. I like to think about it as the eye of the snake – the glass shape is truly unique – and I imagine this pendant to completely transform a crisp white shirt.

Just Peachy

These pants are both vintage and modern. The high waist and pleating reminds me of decades past, but the ankle zips and soft peachy tone are very of-the-moment. I’ve worn them before here, but they look much more casual paired with a simple striped tee and pendant necklace.

Pants: H&M (similar here and denim option here). Tee: Joe Fresh (new, $10!). Heels: Dolce Vita. Necklace: Stefanie Marie (just added to my Etsy shop!). Bracelet: Forever21

Jewelry Inspiration: Ranjana Khan

Sonia and I walked into Bendel’s last week and I stumbled across some beautiful sparkling creations from Ranjana Khan. Although I had heard of her, the wife of famed fellow designer Naeem Khan, I googled her work as soon as I got home to discover loads of precious stone and jeweled collage necklaces and pendants, bracelets and earrings. A longtime lover of mixed media, I am immediately drawn to how rugged and luxe each piece is, which makes them completely compatible with a LBD or a tee and jeans. Most of the decoration is hand sewn onto cut out leather pieces, which directly contrasts to how much sparkle emanates from the jewels. I am completely smitten with these pieces, and I definitely hope to incorporate a bit of her eclectic style into my own Stefanie Marie pieces in the future!

Introducing: Stefanie Marie Designs

When I was in elementary school, a good friend and I (she happens to be Allie who takes pictures for me occasionally) were pretty competitive and decided to start different businesses to see how much money we could make. Making jewelry is in my family blood, so naturally I dug through my mother’s semi-precious stones, made bracelets and sold them on the playground for $5 a pop. I sold them to teachers, friends, my cleaning lady… all until I was taken to the principal’s office because you are not supposed to hawk goods on school premises. I’m not sure who won our little competition, but I always remember that story because when we are little, we feel so uninhibited to start a company- that sometimes we can become inspired by our own younger versions of ourselves.

Fast forward 20 years, and born is Stefanie Marie Designs. I still love to make jewelry, and finally I am inspired to start my business up again, complete with an Etsy shop. I have started with a small selection including bracelets and earrings, but I have some fabulous pendants and necklaces along the way. Each piece is created to stand out in it’s own way, and to me, each piece has a story. I have piles and pages of sketchbooks from my travels around the world, and this is the amalgamation of it all.

I wanted to wait until I had more up on the site, but the suspense was killing me, so here is a small peak of what I have so far!

{the Grand Earring in Emerald- made of cut glass rhinestones and chains- The Grand earring is representative of the Grand Temple in Bangkok. More about it in my Etsy shop!}

{the Grand Earring in Golden}

{the Jean bracelet-made of satin cord and Pave beads- has an array of color theory attached to it. In many cultures, certain colors represent wisdom, joy, passion, strength, etc. Read more about it here in my Stefanie Marie Etsy shop!}

Soon I will have a shop up on this website, but probably not until I get a few more pieces created. In the meantime, check out the Stefanie Marie Etsy shop to buy and let me know what you think!

Thurs-DIY: Metal & Rhinestone Statement Bib Necklace

{Clockwise: Vince Camuto, Oscar de la Renta, Pamela Love, Oscar de la Renta, Aurelie Biderman}

This week we are making a mixed metal statement necklace that is inspired by the awesome gilded bib necklaces above. A bold necklace is exactly what I need to jazz up a white tee shirt and jorts this summer, so why not make my own unique piece? I chose to use copper, gold and silver and bronze gems because I think mixed metals will really make this necklace versatile. Although it looks like you need a ton of supplies, I use these items all the time, so I strongly suggest investing in what you will need!

Supplies:

1. Glue Gun and glue

2. Extra paper

3. Assorted rhinestones (great resource here)

4. Thin chain (its easier if it has bigger loops to pry open)

5. Jump rings

6. Clasp (got mine here)

7. Sheet of craft metal, no thicker than .2mm (mine is from Blick, but not online)

8. Heavy duty scissors

9. Needlenose pliers (to open and close jump rings)

10. Wire cutters (optional, if you bought a thick chain)

11. pencil

12. Dart Awl (not pictured, but useful for pressing holes in metal)

Here we go!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial- let me know if you try it!
