Thurs-DIY Duo: Kelly Wearstler Pillow and Gold Chevron Tray

Sure, the above items are gorgeous and covetable, but if they are not in your price range or out of stock, here and here, in comes some affordable DIY options instead! Today’s easy and awesome DIY duo requires you to have little more than spray paint and masking tape, then just a beautiful vignette to place your pieces!

What you need:

1. Masking Tape

2. Spray Paint (for Fabric, here is a great one!)

3. Pillow case (mine is from Ikea)

4. Cheap Tray (metal here, plastic here) Note: Make sure the spray paint you choose is compatible with the material!

Ste 2: Decide your pattern and start taping

Step 3: Keep Taping!

Step 4: Spray on newsprint or outside. Let dry, then spray a second coat. The fabric paint will absorb, so you may have to do additional coats. Buying untreated pillow cases will reduce the coats.

Step 5: Remove the tape and enjoy! You now have some fabulous custom pieces to wake up any area of your house.

Have fun!

Favorite Things: New Home

This past week has been a crazy whirl of unpacking, throwing away “old Stefanie” items, building furniture and buying new things to decorate our little abode in Manhattan. While it seems that we have tirelessly worked and worked, we still have boxes everywhere and I feel very unsettled about how I am going to organize my new home. Since I have to find some calm in the storm, I have included a few of my favorite little spaces and touches that we have completed so far. Hopefully I will be able to show you the rest soon!

{my desk is ready for April}

{new shelves from Crate & Barrel that hold tons of knick knacks}

{kitchen spice rack and storage since the kitchen is tinnnyyyyyy}

{Getting the bar ready for entertaining}

{Bed, Bath & Beyond towels monogram make it feel like home}

{the. best. part}

What do you think so far?

Home Intervention – Walls of Grey

Next week we move into our brand spankin’ new apartment in Manhattan, and I could not be more excited to decorate it. However, this is the first time in my adult life that I will not be able to paint the walls. I am a huge fan of painted accent walls, wall paper, or just simple stripes, and bare naked white walls seem daunting to me. I have found myself fantasizing about just one colored wall, and what color would I choose? Neutral, versatile, and welcoming grey. A mid tone grey works is both traditional and modern, warming and cooling, and it works with all tones of wood and almost any pop color. I am already working on how I can incorporate it into my white, black, oak and emerald green living/dining room. Check out these pics below for some amazing inspiration for incorporating grey into your own living room.

How will you incorporate grey into your house?

Decorating Dreams: Manhattan Apartment

After what seems like an eternally long week, my boyfriend and I have finally found an apartment in New York. (Shame on all of you New Yorkers for not warning me to what a nightmare it is here). Although we found what we feel is the perfect space, we are now in a constant debate over what of our current furniture we want to keep, and what we can afford to lose. While I know I will have to make some concessions down the line, right now I am dreaming of the perfect way to decorate a small NYC space. Light and white is vital to me- to open up the room and give the illusion of space. I want to punctuate the all-white look with gold accents, textures such as hide and velvet, and have a dose of natural wood to bring the look back down to earth. Top it off with some elements of my favorite color, green- and we’ve got my personal heaven.

See some of my inspiration, all from Pinterest, below:

{Love the scattered green, and the hide rug}

{Sadly my apt does not have that roof or those beams, but I think that wooden bench could be in the budget}

{Sisal rug, wooden side table and black frames for contrast}

{Do I have the cajones for those sofas? How I wish…}

{Again with the black detailing- need to incorporate black somehow!}

{How refreshing is that pop of green on the stark black and white?}

Now with some old and new pieces, this is how I envision the look:

Oscar Sofa: ZGallerie

Rug: WestElm

Velvet Chairs: Target (great find!)

Hide Pillows: ZGallerie

Coffee Table: Ikea

Floor Lamp: Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams

Wood Side Tables: WestElm

Gold Leaf Screen: Design Studio D

Hide Benches: Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams

Everything Emerald

Maybe it’s because of what I drew here, but lately all I can think about is emerald green. I bought a pair of pants today in this mesmerizing color; I am fantasizing how I want to redecorate my living room with emerald velvet; and I am dreaming of a big gilded fat emerald rock on my finger. But I digress. Let’s look at some of the amazing emerald green finds I pinned on Pinterest

And then in walks the fabulosity of these gowns…

{no, i am not the one who wrote major. but i wish I had been!}

So of course, I had to put together a little collage of emerald green items I need in my own life. And of course one of them is already on it’s merry little way to me …

Design Challenge: Manhattan Studio

My good friend Brittany- founder of Something Borrowed NY- is moving into a new studio apartment in Manhattan. However, just like us all, she has several pieces that she already owns and new items she just acquired, and wants to know how to tie them all together. The three items we had to tie together are these:

A dark chocolate storage ottoman-meets-coffee table from Macy’s

Ikea Beech wood TV stand

And this FABULOUS tufted taupe sofa.

Only problem was- whoa- there are a lot of eras and colors and wood finishes here. It can be difficult to tie all of these together while still maintaining a light, open feel in a small space. While Brittany suggested light blue as a color pairing, she admitted she was open to other ideas. I immediately started to look for inspiration and really loved all the natural woods, grey and yellow that I saw.

After seeing these, I knew I would incorporate yellow into my color palette, and the rest came organically. Since Brittany and I both bonded in college on our mutual love of fashion design and dance, I figured these technicolor vintage Couture magazine covers would be the perfect focal point in the room. Let the focal point of the room shine, and help be your inspiration to tie everything else together. Adding touches of teal, metallic and various patterns add depth and shine, and a modern chair offsets the traditional lines of the couch. Let me know what you think!
