Thurs-DIY: Frame Tray

This DIY is as easy as it sounds! Unfortunately this tray was destroyed at a recent dinner party we had, so I’ve been looking for a fun, cheap replacement. A quick trip to Kmart presented me with a gold frame (perfectly matching my decor), and I realized I could insert anything inside for a fail-proof, versatile coffee table tray. I have tons of papers and things at home already, so it was super easy to fill it with, and I love the idea that I can change the color and pattern with the season. Other ideas for fillers include wrapping paper, scrapbooking paper, magazine tears, book pages, photos, etc.

Supplies:

1. Simple frame, at least 11″ x 17″

2. Filler paper

3. Scissors (not pictured)

{and yes, I really do keep limes in bowls around my house!}

Thurs-DIY: Nailpolish Bottle Bud Vases

I’ve wanted to use bud vases to display flowers for a while now, but I just can’t bring myself to pay $10 or more for itty-bitty vases to decorate unexciting areas of my house like the toilet. In comes my simple DIY for nailpolish bottle bud vases! This project is so simple and cheap, and I love that I can use things that I already have lying around the house. Decorate your vases with spray paint alone, or use masking tape, puff paint or even (gasp!) nailpolish to decorate them even more!

Supplies:

1. Nailpolish bottles

2. Spray Paint

I love using them as a simple way to decorate the bathroom!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

As I’m sure you are all well-aware, this past Saturday was both Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. While I think most of the east-coasters I live around now are more used to celebrating the Derby, I decided to bring a little of our west coast love of Mexican Independence Day to our little casa. Our get-together was very small and fairly last minute, but with a few simple decorative touches and a pot-luck Mexican dip-off, the guests were kept very entertained!

{Make your own Margarita Bar}

{mini cocktail shakers}

{Lime juice in a Corona Light bottle}

{Some of the fabulous dips, quesadillas, and mexican wedding cookies}

{DE-LIC-LIOUS salad, which was also a great topping for the tacos that I don’t have a picture of}

What do you think? How did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo/Kentucky Derby?

Thurs-DIY: Nautical Rope Coasters

This week we are making the world’s easiest home accessory- coasters! All the new shiny surfaces and tables in my house have given me a new appreciation- and need- for these table protectors. Although there are tons of different ways to make personalized coasters, I love these nautical inspired ones for the summer time, as they are perfect for beach and lake getaways and 4th of July Parties.

Let’s get started!

1. 1 yd of rope per coaster

2. Scissors

3. Glue Gun

4. Metal tops from mason jars

Thurs-DIY: Floral Bowl Arrangement

Recently I have come to love arranging fresh florals in my home. Because over the past 3 months I have been in and out of houses, coasts and countries while moving, I’ve found that having fresh flowers instantly makes any space feel welcoming and bright. While I love tall, imposing arrangements, I also want to create small, shallow arrangements for coffee tables or dinners where your guests can see over one another.

In comes this fabulous (and unfairly easy) floral bowl arrangement.

You Need:

1. Handful of fresh flowers; bushy, wide ones are best as opposed to skinnier varieties

2. Sharp Scissors

3. Masking Tape

4. Bowl of choice (mine is from C.Wonder)

Now just add water and display!
