Flower Block

Color blocking and bright florals are my summer outfit recipe for beating this heat while still looking chic. I love how pairing bright colors like hot pink with solid black and white really makes the colors pop!

Thurs-DIY: Tropical Floral Tee

Aloha! This week our DIY is something I’m completely coconuts about- a tropical floral tee! We all know florals have been a big trend for spring, but for summer they are taking a brighter, more festive turn, inspired by Stella McCartney’s luau prints. You can get the looks above for $80 to several hundred… but I decided to replicate it with some bright fabric and a neon shirt for $15! Read on for the how-to’s!

What you need:

1. Any old tee. I prefer brights and neons for this project. Old Navy has some great ones here.

2. 1/2 yd of any floral fabric. Mine is from Mood in NYC but here, here and here are some other options that are cheap cheap cheap!

3. Scissors

4. Fabric Glue

5. Studs and studding supplies. If you do decide to include studs (because I stud EV-ER-Y-THING) then I suggest following my studding tutorial here!

Then wear anywhere you want to bring the Tropics to your life! I personally LOVE the way this came out, and it was so easy. Let me know if you try it!

Graffiti

One way to conquer this season’s floral printed pants look is with a structured silhouette on top. I love this vest for its versatility and length that transcends seasons. I would love to hear your opinions about the earrings- I just made them this weekend and have been wearing them non- stop!

Pants: Topshop (jacket here). Vest: Urban Outfitters (old). Tank: Old Navy. Shoes: Zara (old). Sunnies: Forever21. Earrings: NEW! Homemade by Stefanie Marie. Jewelry: H&M, souvenir from India, C.Wonder, Soho street vendor

Rorschach

Can’t get enough of abstract digital florals a la Peter Pilotto. This one reminds me of a Rorschach test, so let me know if you find a higher meaning other than it’s tropical awesomeness.

Sweet and Sour

What’s hot for spring? Digital printed florals, neons and ombre – so why not combine them all in one fantastic pair of statement-making pantalones? Paired with tough metallic accessories, this look is both saccharinely sweet and bitterly sour. Just like I like my cocktails. Enjoy!

Pants: H&M (new). Shoes and top: Zara. Jacket: Gap (old). Bag: Badgley Mischka. Jewelry: Forever21, H&M, Banana Republic

Put a Bow on it

Spring is here! Time for shorter hemlines, bold colors, and my unfortunately pale legs. Sometimes I find it hard to put together a cute outfit in the spring and summer because I am wearing so many fewer layers. To add some extra punch to an outfit like this, just put a bow on it! This easy DIY corsage was a simple detail that added the extra POWW this outfit needed for spring.

Skirt: Urban Outfitters (old). Tee: H&M. Trench: JoeFresh. Flats: Gap. Jewelry: vintage, H&M, souvenirs from India, Shotwell SF. Sunglasses: H&M
