Thurs-DIY: Pearl Napkin Rings

Today’s DIY is bred out a need for me to up my game in the table decor/entertaining realm. I love having dinner parties, but I seriously lack decor touches such as cloth napkins, placemats, and napkin rings that take the table to the next level. My goal for this DIY was to not have to spend any money at all, so I used leftover scrap fabric, old bracelets and a paper towel roll to create them. They are super easy and add a glamourous touch to any dinner party!

Supplies:

1. Paper towel roll or several toilet paper rolls

2. Glue gun and glue

3. Scrap fabric

4. Old bracelets or loose beads (or get creative- you can glue anything on!)

5. Scissors

Using the paper towel roll is an easy base- use anything you find in your house to decorate, spray paint or wrap around them to personalize your next dinner party!

Navy & Yellow Bridal Shower

This past weekend I had the pleasure to co-host a Bridal Shower for one of my best friends, Erin. The other host, Ashley, came up with a great idea for a paper crafts theme, since the Bride is known for making amazing handmade cards for all of her friends. We decided on a Navy and yellow color scheme, with pops of gold and silver metallics. Ashley did such an amazing job with the food; latin inspired- with cotija covered corn and steak with chimichurri sauce. My favorite was the appetizers of mini open-faced cuban sandwiches- they were easy to eat and so full of flavor! For the decorations we used ornately decorated paper for runners and to cover mason jars scattered throughout the patio. Guests were asked to bring the bride a small crafting tool or accessory, in order to make cards for Erin during the shower. On the back of the cards the guests were asked to write a short note or piece of marriage advice to Erin and her fiance. When the cards were finished, we strung them together with twine to make a tapestry that Erin can hang in her house as a keepsake of her special day.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

As I’m sure you are all well-aware, this past Saturday was both Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. While I think most of the east-coasters I live around now are more used to celebrating the Derby, I decided to bring a little of our west coast love of Mexican Independence Day to our little casa. Our get-together was very small and fairly last minute, but with a few simple decorative touches and a pot-luck Mexican dip-off, the guests were kept very entertained!

{Make your own Margarita Bar}

{mini cocktail shakers}

{Lime juice in a Corona Light bottle}

{Some of the fabulous dips, quesadillas, and mexican wedding cookies}

{DE-LIC-LIOUS salad, which was also a great topping for the tacos that I don’t have a picture of}

What do you think? How did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo/Kentucky Derby?

Also- I did a little “Runway to Room” Guest Post for Lindsey over at Pinklet and C – check it out here!

The Easter/Passover Conundrum

Both Easter and Passover are coming up this weekend, but this will be the first year in a while I will yearn to celebrate both. I grew up celebrating Easter, with my mother hiding eggs around the house for my brothers and I to find (the one with the $20 bill in it was gold!), but since graduating college, I have also been celebrating Passover with my boyfriend and friends. Passover has grown to be my third favorite holiday of the year now (after Halloween and Christmas of course!) and it is just as big of a deal to me to do it right as other holidays are.

This year I will be celebrating Passover at my boyfriend’s parent’s house, and will have an Easter brunch that following Sunday, so while I will be trying to remain kosher for the whole week, there might be a few Easter treats that throw me off course. Below are some of my favorite Passover and Easter treats and decorations (kosher or not!) that I hope to enjoy this year.

{the dream table for Passover}

{with this modern Jonathan Adler Seder plate}

{complete with some DIY’d gilded stemware. I mean, you do have to drink 4 glasses, right?}

{First course, Matzoh ball soup with potato noodles}

{you can’t have Passover without brisket and root veggies}

{but maybe we mash the root veggies this time? Delish}

{try rocky road matzoh for dessert}

{and enjoy chocolate caramel matzoh all week long}

{since Easter is more about brunch, how about these scalloped sweet potato cakes to serve with your ham?}

{followed by a necessity; some pastel dyed  deviled eggs}

{Or better yet, this adorable chick version}

{with endless trays of tea sandwiches}

{with mini key lime tarts for dessert}

{followed by tiny macaroon nests! bonus: the coconut in these makes them work for Passover too!}

I hope you all enjoy and happy, family and loved one filled weekend for either Passover or Easter. And please tell me, what are your favorite Passover or Easter foods and traditions?

Guest Post: Allie from Sleepless in San Francisco

Hey Ya’ll! Today is the last installment of my awesome guest blogger posts as I head to New York (tomorrow we will be back to regular scheduled programming). Today’s post is from none other that my SF partner in crime and LONG time friend, Allie Wandner, who’s blog Sleepless in San Francisco is a mash-up of her amazing taste in entertaining, music, witticisms and San Francisco eateries. She is the absolute go-to for organizing and great party, so check out her picks below for an awesome get-together with friends. Enjoy!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Hello SS readers! I’m Allie from Sleepless in San Francisco and one of Stefanie’s contributing photographers here on the Style Safari. While Stefanie is instagramming her fashions through India, she’s asked me to guest post on her blog which I visit often for style advice, DIY ideas and admire one of my best friend’s many talents. You see, Stef and I go way back. Like, kindergarten, talent shows, owned and operated our very own pop up nail shop in the 4th grade kinda back. Stefanie has always been the creative, fashion forward friend in our group, the “I’d love to design your homecoming dress!” go-to-girl. I however, wish I could hire Stefanie to pick out my outfits every day because style like Stef’s is not my forte. But me? I’m the resident hostess and cupcake connoisseur in our group. Spoiler alert: I LOVE hosting parties. And now thanks to Pinterest, not only can I effortlessly plan and host our best friends upcoming engagement party, but this event will be come fully decorated with a candlelit display of mason jars, printed menus, themed cupcakes and a signature drink. It’s going to be the best. party. ever!

Here are my favorite finds so far:
1. Telegrams from Paperless Post. The new evite with style, only $2 but most are free.

2. Chalkboard Welcome sign & buffet label. I LOVE THIS IDEA! Go to Michael’s, pickup some rolls of stick on contact chalkboard rolls and voi-la! $15 chalkboard for your kitchen. I don’t love the donut theme, but mine will display cheeses, wines, crudites and other tasty finger foods

3. Speaking of crudites, how sweet and simple is this idea? A little burlap and ribbon can go a long way.

4. Florals. I’m pretty simple when it comes to floral arrangements – but with mason jars or old milk bottles, you’ve created a vintage centerpiece. Just picked up some bottles from Organize.com for only $3.49 ea and of course it never hurts to wrap a little twine around the bottle.

5. Signature Cupcakes: These Raspberry Lemon cupcakes look delightful!

6. Lastly, no celebration would be complete without the proper toasts and bevies. Signature drink: I could change my mind, but Hard lemonade sounds good to me right now. And yes, I will put them in Mason jars with striped straws and it will be adorable! Straws also available at Organize.com.

What do you think…cute party or what? I can’t wait to throw it and I hope you’re inspired to throw one of your own. It’s been lovely chatting with you, happy Friday!

New Year’s Wedding- Ft. Lauderdale

This past weekend I was fortunate to attend one of my friend’s weddings in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The weather, the decor and the bride were of course all beautiful- I can’t think of a better way to ring in 2012. The decor was simple and elegant with streamlined Black+White; where the ceremony leaned more to white to match the sunny outdoors, and the reception was definitely more glamourous with mostly black. I loved how the glassware and champagne popped against the black table cloth to create drama and make a large ballroom seem intimate.
