So yesterday I get this email from one of my best friends Erin, who is going on a trip to the Bahamas with her Fiance. Let me share some excerpts with you:
“Where we are staying, everyone gets dressed up all the time. I have literally nothing to wear. I have like island summer attire – very casual. Can you send me some good ideas – like combos that would be cheap and I can rotate and still not look like a hobo?”
Erin lives in Martha’s Vineyard, so she’s no stranger to beach vacations. My challenge is to find her things that are inexpensive and versatile, while still making her feel comfortable no matter what the dress code. While I’m sure Erin will be dressing up more than your average beach vacation, I still want the pieces I chose to transition into daytime activities such as shopping and hitting the beach as. To do this, I balanced loose, flowy items such as a pleated dress or asymmetrical skirt with more structured silhouettes such as a cute button down or a tailored white blazer. And I ALWAYS pack a maxi dress for a warm weather vacation- it doubles as an airplane outfit as well as a chic nighttime look with gold jewelry.
