My good friend Brittany- founder of Something Borrowed NY- is moving into a new studio apartment in Manhattan. However, just like us all, she has several pieces that she already owns and new items she just acquired, and wants to know how to tie them all together. The three items we had to tie together are these:
A dark chocolate storage ottoman-meets-coffee table from Macy’s
Ikea Beech wood TV stand
And this FABULOUS tufted taupe sofa.
Only problem was- whoa- there are a lot of eras and colors and wood finishes here. It can be difficult to tie all of these together while still maintaining a light, open feel in a small space. While Brittany suggested light blue as a color pairing, she admitted she was open to other ideas. I immediately started to look for inspiration and really loved all the natural woods, grey and yellow that I saw.
After seeing these, I knew I would incorporate yellow into my color palette, and the rest came organically. Since Brittany and I both bonded in college on our mutual love of fashion design and dance, I figured these technicolor vintage Couture magazine covers would be the perfect focal point in the room. Let the focal point of the room shine, and help be your inspiration to tie everything else together. Adding touches of teal, metallic and various patterns add depth and shine, and a modern chair offsets the traditional lines of the couch. Let me know what you think!

I LOVE IT! Stef, I love the incorporation of yellow into the mix! I can’t wait to show you the finished look when it’s all together!
And of course – you’ll have to come visit my studio in person now ;)
