Thurs-DIY: Nailpolish Bottle Bud Vases

I’ve wanted to use bud vases to display flowers for a while now, but I just can’t bring myself to pay $10 or more for itty-bitty vases to decorate unexciting areas of my house like the toilet. In comes my simple DIY for nailpolish bottle bud vases! This project is so simple and cheap, and I love that I can use things that I already have lying around the house. Decorate your vases with spray paint alone, or use masking tape, puff paint or even (gasp!) nailpolish to decorate them even more!

Supplies:

1. Nailpolish bottles

2. Spray Paint

I love using them as a simple way to decorate the bathroom!

Thurs-DIY: Pearl Napkin Rings

Today’s DIY is bred out a need for me to up my game in the table decor/entertaining realm. I love having dinner parties, but I seriously lack decor touches such as cloth napkins, placemats, and napkin rings that take the table to the next level. My goal for this DIY was to not have to spend any money at all, so I used leftover scrap fabric, old bracelets and a paper towel roll to create them. They are super easy and add a glamourous touch to any dinner party!

Supplies:

1. Paper towel roll or several toilet paper rolls

2. Glue gun and glue

3. Scrap fabric

4. Old bracelets or loose beads (or get creative- you can glue anything on!)

5. Scissors

Using the paper towel roll is an easy base- use anything you find in your house to decorate, spray paint or wrap around them to personalize your next dinner party!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

As I’m sure you are all well-aware, this past Saturday was both Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. While I think most of the east-coasters I live around now are more used to celebrating the Derby, I decided to bring a little of our west coast love of Mexican Independence Day to our little casa. Our get-together was very small and fairly last minute, but with a few simple decorative touches and a pot-luck Mexican dip-off, the guests were kept very entertained!

{Make your own Margarita Bar}

{mini cocktail shakers}

{Lime juice in a Corona Light bottle}

{Some of the fabulous dips, quesadillas, and mexican wedding cookies}

{DE-LIC-LIOUS salad, which was also a great topping for the tacos that I don’t have a picture of}

What do you think? How did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo/Kentucky Derby?

Also- I did a little “Runway to Room” Guest Post for Lindsey over at Pinklet and C – check it out here!

Thurs-DIY Duo: Kelly Wearstler Pillow and Gold Chevron Tray

Sure, the above items are gorgeous and covetable, but if they are not in your price range or out of stock, here and here, in comes some affordable DIY options instead! Today’s easy and awesome DIY duo requires you to have little more than spray paint and masking tape, then just a beautiful vignette to place your pieces!

What you need:

1. Masking Tape

2. Spray Paint (for Fabric, here is a great one!)

3. Pillow case (mine is from Ikea)

4. Cheap Tray (metal here, plastic here) Note: Make sure the spray paint you choose is compatible with the material!

Ste 2: Decide your pattern and start taping

Step 3: Keep Taping!

Step 4: Spray on newsprint or outside. Let dry, then spray a second coat. The fabric paint will absorb, so you may have to do additional coats. Buying untreated pillow cases will reduce the coats.

Step 5: Remove the tape and enjoy! You now have some fabulous custom pieces to wake up any area of your house.

Have fun!

Home Intervention – Walls of Grey

Next week we move into our brand spankin’ new apartment in Manhattan, and I could not be more excited to decorate it. However, this is the first time in my adult life that I will not be able to paint the walls. I am a huge fan of painted accent walls, wall paper, or just simple stripes, and bare naked white walls seem daunting to me. I have found myself fantasizing about just one colored wall, and what color would I choose? Neutral, versatile, and welcoming grey. A mid tone grey works is both traditional and modern, warming and cooling, and it works with all tones of wood and almost any pop color. I am already working on how I can incorporate it into my white, black, oak and emerald green living/dining room. Check out these pics below for some amazing inspiration for incorporating grey into your own living room.

How will you incorporate grey into your house?
